Amboseli National Park

Amboseli National Park

Southern Kenya 8 Rating

“Home of the African Elephant”

Crowned by Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak, Amboseli National Park is one of Kenya’s most famous parks. The name “Amboseli” comes from a Maasai word meaning “salt dust,” and it is one of the best places in Africa to see large herds of elephants up close. Nature lovers can explore five different habitats here ranging from the dry bed of Lake Amboseli, wetlands with sulfur springs, savannah and forests.

The dominant vegetation of the park is the shrub savannah, which surrounds the entire area and in which the most representative species belong to the genera Acacia, Commiphora and Boswellia. You can also visit the local Maasai community that lives around the park and experience their authentic culture.
